Universal access

In recent years, considerable energy and money have been spent trying to achieve universal access to treatment for HIV and AIDS. This was part of a wider objective to provide universal access to treatment, care and prevention by 2010.

Most countries aspiring to expand treatment access set themselves a goal of providingantiretroviral treatment to around 80% of those in need. Although this target has not been met, the goal of universal access to HIV treatment remains an important one for low and middle-income countries around the world.
